Liver vitamin A stores were estimated by using a deuterated-retinol-dilution procedure and calculated assuming that liver weight is 3.0% of body weight and 90% of total body vitamin A is in the liver. Serum vitamin A levels were determined by HPLC. Dietary vitamin A intakes were estimated from two consecutive 3-day weighed records and dietary recalls. Pearson correlation analysis was used to detect the correlations between dietary vitamin A intake and liver vitamin A stores (r = 0.270, P = 0.040) or serum vitamin A levels (r = 0.047, P = 0.721)
