  1. Abbreviations: BMI body mass index, HCC hair cortisol concentrations, PSS-14 the 14-item Perceived Stress Scale, SD standard deviation.
  2. 1Based on the International Classification of Diseases 10th revision (ICD-10), the diagnosis of children’s disabilities was classified as: 1) Mental and behavioral disorders such as autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and mental retardation; 2) Diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue, skin and subcutaneous tissue such as scoliosis; 3) Diseases of the nervous system such as cerebral palsy; 4) Congenital malformations, deformations and chromosomal abnormalities such as Down syndrome.
  3. 2Hair treatment use included tinting, dyeing, permanent wave, and tinting pigment.
  4. Student’s t-tests or analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to assess the differences in caregiver log-transformed HCC across children’s and caregivers’ characteristics.
